afghan wedding i started teaching an adult english class (a class of all men) in the mornings before school and one of my students invited me to his wedding weekend this past weekend. it was quite an experience. the men and women were in separate reception areas. when his mother-in-law/ aunt found out i was his teacher we got to sit in the table of honor, front center, we sat with his family. the lovely couple~ (he is 11 years her senior and they are first cousins, i guess you have to keep things in the family) the bride was at the beauty parlor from 8am-6pm (they make her face very pale almost like a porcelain doll and put bright lipstick on with glitter, lots of eye make-up and they take all the hair off her body except the ones on her head and eyebrows)
there were lots of dancing. the women wore colorful clothes with lots of sparkles, glitter, shine and bling
yum, we had lots of food~ kabali pilau, kabobs, mantu, chicken, spinach and meat balls. they piled the plates on top of each other. our table got served food first
we got our picture taken with the bride and the groom (they changed their clothes and made their appearance) |
